I heard about, then heard, then saw the clip where Geraldo and Bill O’Reilly get into it on the matter of illegal immigration. I won’t go into how fascist O’Reilly made himself seem, and how Geraldo played into that, but I do have feelings on the matter of illegal immigration, which I have chosen to put down here.

I am against enforcement of immigration laws, because I oppose laws of that sort from spirit alone. Illegal immigrants are not criminals in my opinion, they are victims of the absurd policies which are put in place to protect. . . I’m not sure what. More and more I am becoming convinced of certain verifiable facts:

-population growth is a good thing
-population growth certainly strains resources in the short run, but it also provides the impetus for improvement which makes the long run picture much sweeter
-the primary way that illegal immigrants strain our economy is by free-riding on our social safety nets. We can fix/prevent this by doing away with much of our public spending on things such as welfare.

In the end, I don’t think immigration should be illegal. I am against criminal, but I believe crime is the result of one person harming another’s property- so simply moving in next door isn’t enough to count in my book. The more immigrants we have in our country, the better off we’ll all be in the long run.
